CASE STUDY: Hillside Development
The Goldman Residence in Santa Barbara foothills
The Project:
A traditional U-shaped hacienda with infinity pool, porches and patios facing Ocean and mountain views at the end of a ½-mile winding access road.
The Challenge:
Fit the proposed rectangular building with a central inner courtyard onto a small graded pad cut into the brow of a narrow ridge with exposed rock faces and shallow deposits of topsoil.
The Solution:
Design a foundation system (caissons and grade beams) to support the building and retaining walls to support the infinity pool, porches, patios, access road and vehicular turnaround areas.
